Hall or venue first — availability on your date is usually the real constraint, not budget. Photographer next, since the best ones book out a full season ahead. Caterer once your guest count is close to final, then decorator and DJ, which are the most flexible on timing.
It varies enormously by guest count and venue, but hall, catering and photography together typically make up the largest share. Browsing a few providers in each category early gives a realistic sense of your total before committing to a date.
6–12 months for a Colombo or Kandy date in peak season (December–April) — venue and photographer bookings move fastest. Smaller or off-season weddings can be planned in less time.
